How smart management produced the iPod

Innovation isn't just about new products anymore, so you can't properly manage it unless you transcend functional boundaries, writes David Midgley, author of "The Innovation Manual." Apple succeeded with the iPod, he contends, because it developed a new business model and download service. "These are Apple's real innovations," he says. "The rest is just good electronics."
