Lawmakers urge White House to fund beach rebuilding projects

A group of 30 Washington lawmakers this week urged President Barack Obama to allow the economic-stimulus package to fund beach restoration projects, after the lawmakers learned the Office of Management and Budget did not plan to allow funding of such projects. A spokesman for the OMB said the administration has not yet decided whether to fund the beach projects. In a letter to the president, the lawmakers said beach projects are essential to protecting communities from severe coastal storms.
