Safety group stands by opposition to phthalates ban

Despite a federal ban on phthalates in children's products, the Consumer Product Safety Commission stands by government studies showing no health risks from the chemicals. Dr. Marilyn Wind, deputy associate executive director for health sciences at CPSC, said the commission opposes the ban because extensive studies showed "there was not a risk of injury to children." Scientists from the Food and Drug Administration agreed.
