States receive approval for $3.4B in stimulus funds for highways

The federal government has approved nearly 1,000 state highway maintenance projects to receive a total of $3.4 billion in economic-stimulus funds, according to a congressional progress report. The $3.4 billion amounts to about 10% of the total highway allotment in the economic stimulus legislation. State projects have already received $46.3 million of the $6.8 billion dedicated to public transportation.
