3 nuclear plants need extra scrutiny, says NRC chief

All 65 of America's nuclear plants are operating safely and reliably, but three are in need of extra scrutiny due to unplanned shutdowns and other glitches, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairman told Congress last week. The Wolf Creek plant in Kansas was singled out for additional monitoring, along with South Carolina's H.B. Robinson plant and Nebraska's Fort Calhoun plant.
