AT&T eyes HD Voice, touts intelligent use of network

AT&T will introduce support for HD Voice service this year as part of its effort to transmit voice calls over its 4G network, Senior Vice President Kris Rinne told an industry event Monday. The carrier also has plans to bring "advanced LTE" service to improve its network. "HD Voice is part of our voice over LTE strategy,” she said. Rinne also took issue with those who deride wireless carriers as "dumb pipes," saying the carrier has built a solid data infrastructure that has become a popular conduit for third-party Web services.
