Steel wall being built to protect NYC subway line from storm surges

A $38 million project under way in New York City will create a two-mile-long marine steel wall along the track of the A subway line going to Rockaway peninsula in Queens. Each section of the wall is buried 30 feet in the ground, protruding seven feet above the tracks -- two feet above the height of Superstorm Sandy surge -- to protect against storm surges and debris.
