Steel wall will protect NYC subway line from storm surge

A $38 million project under way in New York City will create a two-mile-long marine steel wall along the track of the A subway line going to Rockaway peninsula in Queens. Each section of the wall is buried 30 feet in the ground, protruding 7 feet above the track -- 2 feet higher than the height of superstorm Sandy surge -- to protect against storm surge and debris.
