Guidelines for treatment of neonatal encephalopathy updated

Factors such as mother's medical history, placental pathology, and obstetric and intrapartum factors should be considered when evaluating newborns with encephalopathy, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said in a task force report. "By doing a root-cause analysis, we hope to identify issues that may help prevent some cases of neonatal encephalopathy in the future," the groups said.
