Popularity of river cruises pushing supply to the limit, execs say

River cruising, long on the radar of European travelers, has seized the interest of the American public and supply so far is unable to meet the burgeoning demand, said river-cruising executives at the New York Times Travel Show. Cindy Sullivan, a regional manager for the Globus Family of Brands, advised travel agents to book in advance to secure berths for clients, contrary to the perception that last-minute deals are best. Sullivan said the typical cruiser for long voyages is around 63 years old, while shorter cruises usually draw families and cruisers of various ages.
