Students develop speech, social skills through film project

Some students with disabilities from a school in Staten Island, N.Y., recently put their filmmaking skills to the test. Educators and speech therapists at the school decided to give students a real-world learning opportunity by creating a video entry for a local film festival. The students learned about city and local government, how to debate topics and interviewed a local government leader. "This allowed students to connect their learning to real-life situations," speech therapist Emily Seder said.
