206-year-old Vermont schoolhouse may close

A Vermont village schoolhouse built in 1801 and another one-room school may close this year after residents tired of shouldering the costs of running two tiny schools for fewer than 50 students rejected their proposed operating budgets last month. If the schools close as expected, Vermont would be left with just one remaining one-room school, according to the state Department of Education.
