Detroit moves swiftly in effort to reverse dismal graduation rate

Detroit's new superintendent has responded admirably to a recent report showing that just one in four freshman students in the city's public schools will graduate high school in four years, writes The Detroit News editorial board. The city's five worst schools will be closed and reopened as smaller, innovative programs aimed at meeting the specific needs of many urban students, and, this editorial says, likely will be patterned after successful Detroit charters.
