Sprint sticking with WiMAX, CEO says

Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse gave a spirited defense of his company's embrace of WiMAX wireless technology this week, insisting that "WiMAX is not 'slide-ware,'" the current dismissive jargon for overly touted technology that never comes to be. Hesse surprised analysts by failing to announce completion of joint-venture talks Sprint has been holding with various companies to help finance its plans, but one executive hinted that a deal might be imminent. The carrier also said it planned to delay its Xohm service launch until later in the year.
