More carriers are reporting a decline in March traffic, in a reflection of how the current recession is affecting demand for air travel. AirTran Airways yesterday reported a 7.2% dip in passenger traffic for the month of March. American Airlines reported that traffic dropped 10.9%, and load factor fell to 79.2% from 83.9% a year earlier. US Airways said March passenger traffic was down 9% compared with a year ago, while passenger traffic for the first quarter was down 8%.
