More than 5 million jobs lost so far in this recession

Since the recession officially began in December 2007, the U.S. has lost 5.1 million jobs; the past three months account for more than 2 million of that total. The Labor Department reported that, pretty much as economists expected, nonfarm payrolls plummeted by 663,000 in March.
