Interior Department denies it has a deal with BP to restart Gulf drilling

The U.S. Interior Department denied British reports that it made a deal to let BP resume oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. "There is no such deal," said Melissa Schwartz, a spokeswoman for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement. "We don't make deals. We issue permits based on the merits of the application."
