Megaprojects to upgrade infrastructure: 5 under way, 5 in limbo

Five multibillion-dollar projects currently being built are addressing the deteriorating state of the country's infrastructure. This article lists five job-generating projects: the extension of the Washington, D.C.-area Metrorail to Dulles airport and the outer Virginia suburbs; Otay Mesa East, a land port, border-crossing project in San Diego; the modernization of Chicago's O'Hare airport; the Crescent Corridor freight-rail upgrade in 13 states; and the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle. The list also includes the five projects that are at risk of not getting built, such as the Columbia River Crossing.
