What McDonald's has learned from its hashtag issues

McDonald's has seen trouble with hashtag-based Twitter campaigns after the site's users hijacked the hashtags for various off-topic hijinks. Social media director Rick Wion says McDonald's acted quickly to change its campaign hashtags and keep the conversation on track. "Being in social media means giving up control -- but you can't just give up control and hope for the best, you have to have contingency plans in place," Wion says.
