Pre- and postsurgical caloric restriction shows blood glucose benefits

Undergoing a restrictive diet before and after gastric-bypass surgery was associated with significant improvements in patients' blood glucose levels, according to a study in Diabetes Care. The findings demonstrate that caloric restriction alone helps improve symptoms of diabetes and could be effective without surgery if it were maintained, the lead researcher said.
