Teacher: Gates' proposed reforms fail to address high schools' "dirty little secret"

In an opinion piece, middle school teacher Thom Powell says all the fuss over fixing "obsolete" high schools ignores the reality that high schools can't turn around troubled students who come from dysfunctional families. Rather than working to overhaul the system, Gates could make a real difference, Powell says, if he instead let his workers out earlier so they could dine with their kids and help them do their homework.
