Health leaders look to "translational research" for cures

Following significant increases in the National Institutes of Health budget in recent years, some public and congressional officials are pressuring the NIH to produce cures, and translational research is cited as a way to speed scientific advances to treatments. NIH Director Elias Zerhouni has urged universities to support such researchers, and many academic groups are creating new centers to bring basic and clinical researchers together.
