Corps will complete work on New Orleans drainage pumps by June

The system that protects the New Orleans area from hurricanes is stronger than it was two years ago, according to Army Corps of Engineers officials. Corrective work on 40 pumps at the end of three drainage canals in New Orleans will be completed by June 1, they said. The remarks were made at the National Hurricane Conference, which began in New Orleans on Monday.
