Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., plans to block the confirmation of the White House's nominee to head the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Landrieu said she is reacting to the administration's opposition to $1.3 billion intended to speed New Orleans levee repairs that is included in a spending bill. "I want to use every opportunity available to me as a senator from Louisiana to spotlight the serious issue of storm protection and to secure from this administration the necessary commitment to action," Landrieu said. "Our people have already paid too high a price for official neglect and mismanagement for us to allow business as usual."
