Fast-casual is a "sweet spot in the sour economy"

Fast-casual chains including Panera Bread and Noodles & Co. are reaping the benefits as belt-tightening consumers continue to trade down from casual-dining price points while still seeking quality food offerings. Revenue at fast-casual chains grew last year, even as overall sales at the country's top 500 chains fell, according to a Technomic report.
