Federal agencies, groups evaluate XMRV in the blood supply

Federal agencies, including the FDA, NIH and CDC, have collaborated with blood banks, academic institutions and other groups to establish the XMRV working group. The initiative will focus on identifying the most effective tests to detect the virus in the blood and determine whether it presents a threat to the blood supply. The initiative is composed of three phases, with the first two already launched. AABB has also formed an XMRV task force to address concerns relating to the virus.
