Improvement efforts at 35 Massachusetts schools in full swing

Efforts to improve 35 struggling schools are under way across Massachusetts, where overhaul at the schools is in its second year. Twenty schools have hired new principals, about a third have replaced at least 50% of their teachers and many have extended the length of the school day. Other changes aimed at raising student achievement include new laptop programs, tutoring and mentoring efforts, and English lessons for parents so they can provide homework help.
