Short sleepers may shed light on varying sleep patterns

Scientists are studying short sleepers, or people who function well on very little sleep, in the hopes of uncovering why humans have varying sleep needs and how the body regulates sleep. Ying-Hui Fu, a human geneticist at the University of California, San Francisco, says, "My long-term goal is to someday learn enough so we can manipulate the sleep pathways without damaging our health."
