Gartner: TSMC commanded almost half of foundry market in 2011

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing held 48.8% of the $29.8 billion silicon foundry market in 2011, continuing its dominance in contract chipmaking, according to figures from Gartner. The worldwide foundry market grew 5.1% last year, the market research firm reported. Gartner did not count the $1 billion worth of chips Samsung made for Apple last year toward the Korean company's foundry revenues, however.
