IHS: Set-top boxes give way to software for multiscreen devices

The number of multiscreen devices active on pay-television networks around the world is forecast to increase to 303.7 million units by 2015, compared with 29.5 million units in 2010, according to IHS Screen Digest. At the same time, the global market for set-top boxes is estimated to post a compound annual growth rate of just 9%, as cable system operators offer more software and services for Internet-connected TV sets, PCs, smartphones, tablet computers and other devices, the market research firm reports.
