Ivory Coast expects to double cocoa output with fertilizer

Ivory Coast is hoping to double its cocoa production with a large shipment of fertilizer as part of a Fertilizer Initiative involving industry partners such as Mars, Barry Callebaut and Cargill. "Efficient use of fertilizer can help regenerate the fertility of Africa's nutrient depleted soils, renew production in aging plantations, and halt the extension of cocoa growing areas into high conservation value zones such as forests," the Sustainable Trade Initiative said in a statement.
