DARPA looks into automatic software debugging

With software glitches the prime cause of most execution errors, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, is exploring ways to use Big Data to automatically address and correct bad coding. "Ideally, we could enable a paradigm shift in the way we think about software construction and maintenance, replacing the existing costly and laborious test/debug/validate cycle with 'always on' program analysis, mining, inspection and discovery," said Suresh Jagannathan, DARPA's program manager for the Mining and Understanding Software Enclaves project.
