ExxonMobil carbon report "designed to mislead," says former SEC official

ExxonMobil has published a report arguing that its fossil-fuel assets won't become stranded, because a low-carbon, fossil-free economy would be too costly for consumers. That's deliberately misleading and suggests ExxonMobil has no intention of mending its ways, writes Bevis Longstreth, former commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission. "This report is an artifice ... [that] seems to bear out the possibility that ExxonMobil's leaders don't think at all about the longer term consequences of burning all that fossil fuel," Longstreth writes.
