Taxes on high-speed DSL connections questioned

In 17 states and the District of Columbia, consumers pay taxes on high-speed Internet connections provided by telcos but not on those provided by cable companies. The difference arises in that the Internet tax moratorium does not extend to "telecommunications services," but some senators have argued the moratorium should apply to DSL service in order to level the playing field.
