Health IT must focus on boosting quality of care, expert says

The adoption of electronic prescribing, computerized medical records and other health IT systems should take a "care-centric" approach instead of a technology-focused one, said Dr. Peter Basch, an executive with MedStar Health. Basch said many platforms have been developed without enough input from clinicians, resulting in applications that are unwieldy to use and do little to boost the quality of care and patient outcomes.
