Chemical-sector jobs down 0.3% in March; plastics, rubber up 0.6%

The U.S. chemical industry lost 2,200 jobs in March even as employment in the plastics and rubber industries increased by 3,700 during the same period. Meanwhile, the manufacturing and construction sectors, which are crucial downstream markets for the chemical and plastic industries, performed better, adding 17,000 and 15,000 jobs, respectively, for the month.
