Labor Department ends employer resource

The Department of Labor will no longer issue wage-and-hour fact-specific opinion letters, a blow to a long-held human resources practice, says James M. Coleman, a lawyer. "By eliminating this long-held response to opinion-letter requests, HR leaders have lost a valuable practice they have used in filing away opinion letters [as later proof, in court, of] good-faith defense," he says.
