What do students need to know about computers?

Students know how to search and chat online, but most lack in-depth understanding of how computers work, according to Chris Stephenson, executive director of the Computer Science Teachers Association. Stephenson and teachers say that schools should introduce students as early as elementary school to basic computer lessons. Florida teacher Deborah Mosley says she begins her lessons with a typing tutorial and then moves into more challenging lessons, such as software applications and Internet safety.
