App makers face federal privacy probe

The federal government has launched a probe to determine whether developers of smartphone applications have broken any laws in the way they acquire and share personal consumer data, according to music streaming site Pandora, which said it was subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury on the matter. Investigators are looking into whether app makers violated federal computer fraud rules by failing to disclose to users the extent to which they share personal data with advertisers.
