Extreme weight gain may raise risk of breast cancer recurrence

Data on 18,336 breast cancer survivors in the U.S. and China found that those who gained at least 10% of their pre-diagnosis weight in the 18 to 48 months after diagnosis had a 14% increased risk of cancer recurrence compared with those who gained 5% or less of their pre-diagnosis weight. The study also found that women with normal pre-diagnosis weight were most likely to gain pounds and that they were 25% more likely to suffer cancer recurrence or death during the follow-up.
