Gasoline prices surge to highest level since September 2008

The Department of Energy announced that the average price of gasoline reached $3.68 per gallon, beating the record set in September 2008. The price of oil is slated to fall below $100 per barrel in the third quarter, predicted Robert Powell, a senior analyst with The Economist Intelligence Unit. However, global economic issues and weak housing and employment sectors in the U.S. could further increase gasoline prices this year, said Shelley Goldberg of Roubini Global Economics.
