ICU telemedicine reduces in-unit mortality, data show

A Veterans Affairs study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found using telemedicine in the ICU led to a 20% decline in ICU mortality and reduced average lengths of stay in the unit by 1.26 days. Researchers analyzed data from 13 studies and found ICU telemedicine did not affect overall hospital mortality but said benefits in the ICU could be attributed to better triage and decision-making and around-the-clock patient oversight.
