BlackBerry remains a power in Washington

The wheels of Washington's bureaucracy are slow to turn, a situation that has helped Research in Motion maintain the BlackBerry's standing in the nation's capital -- even among President Barack Obama and his staff -- despite the phone's sliding market share elsewhere. "We appreciate RIM’s focus on security, which is paramount for government use," said Casey Coleman of the General Services Administration. Some agencies have begun to consider other platforms, although officials consider the BlackBerry more economical than its rivals.
