2011 was a good year to be in the wireless IC business -- and a bad year for DRAM suppliers. In IC Insights' annual ranking of the top 25 semiconductor companies, measured by sales, DRAM makers Hynix, Micron Technology and Elpida Memory all slipped in the rankings. Qualcomm, which supplies application processors and other components for smartphones, moved up to seventh place in 2011 from 10th in 2010. Making its debut in the top 25 was ON Semiconductor, which ranked 23rd, after acquiring Sanyo's chip business last year and increasing its chip sales by 49%.
