Far-flung districts woo new Oklahoma teachers


States as close as Texas and as far away as Alaska are recruiting Oklahoma's new teacher graduates with higher salaries, extra pay for bilingual skills and other incentives, such as personal laptops. The Oklahoma Education Association is lobbying for a bill that would accelerate the state's five-year plan to bring teachers' pay up to the regional average. The Oklahoman (4/05)
