Corps starts removing tree stumps from New Orleans levee

The Army Corps of Engineers this week began work to remove dozens of tree stumps along the East Jefferson lakefront and drainage canals in New Orleans. The project is the last step in a tree-cutting campaign launched after Hurricane Katrina. After the trees are removed, the Corps will be in compliance with its own regulations and Louisiana laws prohibiting tree and shrub growth in all areas of the levee.
