Analysis: Housing uptick a plus for U.S. states' coffers

Because housing accounts for such a large part of tax revenue for many U.S. state governments, the housing market's modest improvement in February gave some welcome relief to state capitols, with more help possibly on the way. A few monthly indicators, including the National Association of Realtors' index of pending home sales, suggest that home sales are picking up.
