More than 1,800 U.S. dams deficient, group says

A recent survey found more than 1,800 dams in the U.S. to be structurally deficient -- a number that has increased five times since 2001. Fixing the worst dams would cost about $8 billion, dam safety manager Brad Larossi said. However, 11 states will get a bit of a break when they share in $45 million in stimulus funds earmarked for dam repair.
