Japanese chemical firm's JV with Dow to last only until 2011

Shin-Etsu Chemical has confirmed that it will end its vinyl chloride monomer joint venture with Dow Chemical in 2011, the same year it will finish its own VCM plant in the U.S. Meanwhile, Dow does not plan to remain in the VCM merchant market as the company pursues an asset-light strategy. The U.S. chemical major aims to utilize its chlorine capacity for its downstream businesses while seeking partners in the polyvinyl chloride market, said Dow CEO Andrew Liveris.
