NIH director champions personalized medicine

NIH Director Francis Collins has the benefit of a budget increase to boost the agency's research efforts. Collins, who previously led the Human Genome Project, wants agency scientists more involved in comparative-effectiveness research and development of new therapies. "A lot of personalized medicine is going to be about prevention," Collins said, adding that it eventually will reduce health care costs.
